Disclaimer: I am not a Dev. I do some tinkering on the side privately, write some js for work, built a weather page with VueJS to try to understand how SPAs work and normally build websites with Kirby CMS (trusted php) with smaller bits of fronted vanilla js and tailwindcss and do my main work with code in python for data analysis work.
That said, as a native German, I was really not sure if I was reading a satire project mocking the whole hype or if this really was a project intended for productive usage.
I liked the benchmark numbers and the marketing approach but something was always irking at the back of my mind.
However it gave me an interesting time this early in the morning - so thanks for that.
- graderjs 5y ago> However it gave me an interesting time this early in the morning - so thanks for that. You're welcome! Actually I randomly had the idea this morning that I should convert the first part of the README and project description to German. I don't know why. I guess I was dissatisfied with the former name "BANG" and the idea came to me of a German voice saying, "Das Bang Froomverk!" in a very enthusiastic way...and I was like, "that sounds so much better! I bet the whole intro will sound so much better in German." I tried it...and was not disappointed. Besides, I figure...why not translate some English into German anyway. Not everything has to be English...not everyone on GitHub is English by any means. Maybe I'm tired of English. English fatigue...heh Thank you...please let me know if this is offensive to people from Germany and I will do something.
- sdoering 5y agoHi - i really liked it. I don't think anything could be read as offensive. "die benutzerdefinierte Elemente druckt" (druck = to print) Not sure if this is totally fitting. I think "die benutzerdefinierte Elemente darstellt" (shows/presents) would fit the intention better. "und muss transpiliert werden" I actually have no idea what "transpiliert" means - and I am a German native speaker ;-). I googled a bit and found that it could be translated as "quer-übersetzen" (cross-translating) => so maybe "und muss querübersetzt werden". I would drop the hyphen in "quer-übersetzt" because the hyphen in Germany isn't liked for that and shows poor grammar. ;-) Just my 2 cents.
- graderjs 5y agoThank you very much. I'll add your updates! Really appreciate the German info here :)
- graderjs 5y agoAlright I changed to und muss querübersetzt werde. Thank you! But I decided to keep druckt, because in English I use the word "Print" to talk about creating custom elements. I'm sure you know this, but just to explain my thinking, it's because to be print can be all kinds of "repeatable production", not just ink printing. People even use it for writing, as in "print" your name here. Even in English this word is not really used to describe creating JS/HTML views, but I use it...because to me, I think about the process of layering the data values, templating them into the HTML, and realizing/creating that as actual DOM, plus style layers, as well described by "print". To me all this is "printing" the DOM elements. So that's why I keep that word there. However, I may be misunderstanding druckt in German (I have no idea, just going on what Google tells me), and it may be specific in a way that the English "print" is not. If so, and if you let me know, maybe I will do something. Thank you for your German info, really appreciate it! I thin it got better because of your input :)
- LargoLasskhyfv 5y agoIt's not offensive. Just very 'uncanny valley' somehow. Like autotränsläyshun and/or ai-barfed. And for (whatever-)framework I'd use "Gerüst" or "Schablone", Ansichtsbibliothek makes no sense whatsoever, "Zeichenhilfe" maybe a little bit more. Btw. Bang ist "der Knall" in German. Try https://dict.leo.org/german-english/ https://dict.leo.org/german-english/ for all sorts of synonms for real irkmastery ;->
- graderjs 5y agoHaha, great. Thank you, man! Very funny :)
- LargoLasskhyfv 5y agoDa nich für... edit: meaning "Not for this" in slightly northern german slang as in "It's nothing" :-) editit: or "De nada"
- graderjs 5y agoHeh
- graderjs 5y agoAlright, I changed Ansichtsbibliothek to Zeichenhilfe. And now I renamed the whole thing to "der.Knall.Gerust". Unfortunately, GitHub doesn't do the u umlat (?) and GitHub wanted to be like: "That name is available. Your repository will be called: der.Knall.Ger-st" I was like, "Nope". So I used Gerust. I hope this is OK. Let me know if it's not and I'll do something. Thanks again for the German, I really appreciate it! :)
- LargoLasskhyfv 5y agoExcellent!
