And that's a _good_ thing?
- dymk 5y agoDo you think people should be excluded from communicating with each-other (and the wider world) because they can't afford a PC, or because their country doesn't have good internet infrastructure?
- buzzert 5y agoI can't answer that with a definitive "yes" or "no". Your example is something obviously good, but there are obvious downsides to this equation also. Lately, I've been thinking the world would be much better off without this easily accessible casino/skinner box/echo chamber/surveillance state. A lot of social cohesion problems really started with widespread access to smartphones, in my opinion.
- JohnWhigham 5y agoNot sure if you've noticed, but everyone having a say has eviscerated society and our ability to communicate with one another. We didn't evolve to be part of a global community where everyone knows everything going on and everyone has a say on every conversation going on in the world. The Internet was better when it took a little work to get access to the information you wanted. Egalitarian cries of "Internet for everyone!" have devolved into bullshit that ruthless companies looking for more profits have co-opted. Again, it's not like it would have worked out anyway.
