The love story behind Wikipedia’s ‘high five’ photos
- birdyrooster 5y agoThis entire article exists as a setup and resolution for: “Victim misses” had become “victim Mrs.”!
- fknorangesite 5y agoWorth it.
- cottager2 5y agoWhy is social media not ephemeral by default? I feel like you should be able to share a photo of you and your wife on your wedding day without a reporter digging it up years later.
- gverrilla 5y agoFor the same reason you are willing to share it.
- fknorangesite 5y agoShe didn't dig it out of his facebook profile or something - he posted the photo in an AskReddit thread about the high five photos.
- Rebelgecko 5y agoFor a less wholesome version of this, it'd be fascinating to read an article about the exhibitionists who add pictures of themselves to the wiki articles for various carnal activities. Over the years most of the photos have been replaced with horrifying WikiHow-style cartoons, but a few remain.
- dTal 5y agoAs ever, an xkcd for everything: https://xkcd.com/631/ https://xkcd.com/631/
- Breza 5y agoI used to volunteer on Wikipedia's private help desk (OTRS). I saw this exact scenario happen once. A volunteer can try removing the image with some boring edit comment to avoid drawing attention. Or you can comment something like "Image replaced per OTRS ticket 3432984324" or reach out to an admin.
- ossusermivami 5y agogreat wholesome story but i feel a bit creepy entering the life of these people like this.
- 404yesworking 5y agoaww! this was sweet.
