Will your spending decline in retirement?
- uberman 5y agoOf course people spend less after retirement. If you don't have enough in savings (and most Americans do not), that is basically a forgone conclusion.
- ggm 5y agoThe article discusses this. The point here isn't obligated frugality, its people who deliberately chose to reduce spending because their stage of life doesn't need it. I expect to draw down my entire retirement savings and die asset rich, but cash poor. It's how pensions are designed to operate btw. The modern idea of locking up your assets to make an income stream forever is asinine for most people. Actuaries have good jobs, one of which is helping you estimate your life expectency.
