Keycloak 17.0.0 released. Now based on Quarkus

What does this mean? Lighter images? Does this compete with Ory Kratos in being lightweight? We run Keycloak but it does feel heavy.

    Quarkus 2.7.1 Released - But Why Quarkus? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30377204 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30377204

Native Java is still Java. Decades of reflection usage in libraries are hard to get rid of, which often makes it impossible to strip unused code from the image. Quark _may_ help in this, but fat binaries are always just a dependency away.

For a more out of the box alternative to Keycloak you might want to look into Authentik.

Can Authentik be run without being in a container?
