- ggm 5y agoIf you had just fought the war of 1871 you could predict machine-guns where the coming thing, but you would be hard pressed to get to chemical warfare at the scale which emerged into the western front. I would add that some scientists argued the rational view was that gas was MORE humane than the alternatives. Fritz Haber's wife committed suicide, in part because of his role in the german gas campaign.
