Great art is supposed to be ‘triggering’
- sdoering 5y agoNo it isn't. And yes it is. And it is supposed to break your expectations. And to sooth you. And great art is great because authoritative institution declared it as such. And, and, and... There are so many different definitions of what art is, that I find it funny that now trigger warnings are a danger to art. One could say, that great art doesn't care for trigger warnings. I expect for example Joseph Beuys would not have cared. Or Franz Kafka. Or a myriad other artists. So short version: I don't buy into the premise of the article.
- Beltalowda 5y agoI never understood the opposition to "trigger warnings"; isn't it just the same as labelling on films and video games that we've had for years? I do think they're mostly pointless though, and some of the more aggressive demands for them are usually "second-hand offence" (e.g. "someone could be disturbed by this" rather than "I am disturbed by this"). But still, who cares if there's some pointless warning?
