Mint is stagnating for years and looks like intuit is just supporting it, without doing any investments. It’s sad because alternatives are even worse (e.g. personal capital looks better but loses connectivity to banks much more often).
Microsoft money from 15 years ago had more features and convenience than mint now.
- lelandfe 5y agoIt is pretty unbelievable how little Intuit has done for the platform post-acquisition. Huge swaths of the tool are broken and worthless and have been that way for going on a decade now. My HSA and two 401k's have shown errors when viewing stock data for the last 5 years. There is no record of my purchase prices for any accounts. When Flash was finally killed off, Intuit's response was to screencap the Flash-based UI and re-use it via images: https://i.imgur.com/oIo4jJ6.png https://i.imgur.com/oIo4jJ6.png. They forgot to make them transparent PNGs, so the light gray Mint background of yore is still there. Their Flash-based data visualization tool was replaced (with much sighing and fist shaking within Intuit, I expect) with a barebones JS implementation that has fewer features than before. It was clearly just thrown together: it uses browser default fonts and a color scheme unrelated to Mint's palette: https://i.imgur.com/S3o00px.png https://i.imgur.com/S3o00px.png So, what has Intuit actually done? Stuff data-grabbing, money-making "features" into the utility (Credit card recommendations! Loan consolidation! Credit score analysis!). They've done no work on the UI's responsiveness, so now the interface looks like this at small resolutions: https://i.imgur.com/52NFaXR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/52NFaXR.jpg But, yes, they've done so much work getting scraping and bank connections working that it's the most stable record I have.
- spookthesunset 5y agoFor real. That platform has so much potential but it never built it. Absolutely nothing about it seems to have changed since when they bought it.
