I think many of us fell into what I'll call "hacker's fallacy", that given society free access to information and communication, people will be free to educate themselves and others and we will progress as a species. At first we were going to that direction, before the status quo caught on. Now people are being exploited and misinformed more than it was imaginable before the information age. I'd like to thing the hippies had a similar fallacy, where they thought they could overthrow the system with flower power (mainly psychedelic drugs). Looking forward to the next iteration.
