Douglas Trumbull, Visual Effects Wizard, Dies at 79
- TMWNN 5y agoTrumbull saved Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The film was scheduled for Christmas 1979 but the effects were not done. Millions were uselessly wasted. Trumbull came in and completed the effects in time, including the amazing drydock scene (<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpEv8pRGkME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpEv8pRGkME>). When Kirk thanks Scotty at the end, he is really thanking Trumbull on behalf of the audience.
