After the Great Resignation, Tech Firms Are Getting Desperate
- marvinmalkowski 5y agoIronically I get a bunch of rejection letters on most jobs that I apply for. Cannot figure it out either
- JSeymourATL 5y agoMost companies still get in their own way— Hiring executives are largely divorced from the recruiting process. Instead, they task low-level HR flunkies with identifying, assessing, and attracting talent. Good talent constantly get overlooked, rejected, or more frequently turned-off.
- jleyank 5y agoSalaries going up? Working conditions improving? Age buckets for hiring widening? Training being offered? Or just immigration lawyer complaints? Define desperate…

- JSeymourATL 5y ago> “Attracting candidates with office perks like a beer keg in the kitchen or flexible work-from-home policies is a thing of the past,” she says. “People are tired of being overworked and underpaid, and want an employer who cares about their overall well-being and future success.” Oddly, an insightful comment. What does a company that actually cares about my well-being and future success look like?
- Jiro 5y agoSome policies are more aligned with the employee's well-being and future success than other policies. I think that most people mean something like that when they say the company "cares about" such things, rather than meaning that the company is literally capable of caring.

- peakaboo 5y agoA company will never care (in the real meaning of the word) about you as a person. You can't combine capitalism with care for humans.

- tluyben2 5y agoI am not really looking but the amount of companies or recruiters in my inbox is lower than at it was 3 years ago and the good offers are not remote and the interviews are still silly. So I guess more desperate is what we need.
- HappyHydralisk 5y agoIt is great seeing devs getting offered better pay and benefits, but I think I just became tech lead at the worst time :D We're trying to hire for an entry level full stack position, but the candidate pool is not ideal: only one bootcamp, dabbled in Java or Python while in high school, only want to pick one side to develop in (frontend or backend, not both). We are not going to hire any of these people. I can't teach them programming while also trying to fix bugs and add features. We'll most likely be taking the job post down and will try again in the summer.
- sage76 5y agoTurns out, when you reject everyone, it gets hard to fill a new position. Who woulda thunk it?
