- rasz 5y agoUkraine gave up its nukes after receiving "security warranties" from "Russian, the United Kingdom, and the United States" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Securit... Poland had similar warranties from UK and France https://history.blog.gov.uk/2019/03/28/whats-the-context-31-march-1939-the-british-guarantee-to-poland/ https://history.blog.gov.uk/2019/03/28/whats-the-context-31-... It was all toilet paper.
- jmpman 5y agoI meant with conventional warheads. Drop a couple tons on Lenin in Red Square. Certainly it’s just symbolic, but if it’s successful, then it’s would be a failed test of the Moscow anti missile capabilities, and that has much more serious implications for Russia.
- iab 5y agoUkraine never had launch authority for these weapons, so this point is moot.
- malermeister 5y agoSo i know nothing about how missiles work, but if you had physical access for decades, wouldn't it be possible to override those controls?
- iab 5y agoIt might have been possible to repurpose them: > They might have had to dismantle the warheads, remove the fissile material, and start again to construct new warheads. but likely impossible to use them as intended.
