California legislators push to mandate vaccines for employees of all businesses
- Bostonian 5y agoEven if you support vaccine mandates (I don't), why should employers be deputized to enforce them? The legislators who want a vaccine mandate should define the fines and jail terms that resisters will face. If the don't have the stomach to have the police enforce the mandate, they should dump it instead of passing the buck to employers.
- dragonwriter 5y agoFor in person (on site or field work with public/customer/coworker contact) work, you could argue it is a workplace safety rule, which makes more sense than a criminal mandate. That's a harder argument where contact isn't a job requirement.
- nikolay 5y agoAre there mandatory vaccines outside of the COVID-19 ones? They should mandate the rabies vaccine, too - imagine somebody getting rabies from a wild animal and then going to work and starting to bite and scratch everybody he meets. They should also mandate weekly STD testing as Syphilis can spread without intimate contact at certain stages. I mean, there are so many diseases one can transfer to others - they all should be prevented with testing and jabs!
- dragonwriter 5y ago> Are there mandatory vaccines outside of the COVID-19 ones? Yes, there are testing and/or vaccination requirements for a number of communicable diseases and particular jobs, based on the public health risk profile (prevalence, infectiousness, and virulence) of the disease and the specific contours (contact level, contact population, etc.) of the jobs involved.
- nikolay 5y ago"Particular jobs" makes this a totally different thing! We're setting a dangerous precedent!
