The Gumball Rally (1976) was an earlier and better movie than The Canonball Run (1981). At least better to this pre-teen. We would set the alarm to watch it in the wee hours of the morning on the super-late show, before video stores. I still think of the race as the Gumball Rally, and think of the Canonball Run movie as a ripoff/remake. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074597 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074597
