They’ve been charged with conspiring to launder, not stealing, the $4B+ in bitcoin.
- vmception 5y agoBecause that encrypted zip file was probably received from the hacker Ilya bought it from for a million dollars or so, when this hack was only worth $8mm. Just one of many "probably's".
- seanp2k2 5y agoObviously, they reverse-engineered the stolen Bitcoin black market.
- smsm42 5y agoIt's quite plausible to assume one of them or both did steal it though. It's not very likely that somebody would just give 4bn in bitcoins to a stranger to keep for a while.
