Ask HN: Long-Term Effects of VR?
Conducting a long-term study on effects of VR is challenging if not outright impossible with accuracy.
Yet - multiple historical instances of things that have generated mass adoption (E.g. cigarettes, lead, uranium glassware) were later discovered to have health consequences
Could this be a risk with VR?
- breckenedge 5y agoI’d say it’s about as risky as video games or smartphones.
- verdverm 5y agoIt's different because of the high immersion factor. How this translates to long term effects is unknown, but I've always thought that the matrix storyline might be more accurate if the humans went in voluntarily. That is, I think the long term effects will be more social than directly health.
