The tech monopolies make the insecure practice of sideloading almost a necessity because no stupid corporation will be fully controlling what to run and what not to run on my own phone. This is so much worse than the Microsoft outrage in the 90's. That's why I'm not doing Iphone, I will keep my options to customize the shit out of a very expensive piece of equipment as I see fit, and not the appstore censorship rules in whatever country I happened to be in at the time.
Come to think of it, how did another massive everyday consumer OS - Windows - survive all these decades with _most_ apps installed via sideloading (of sorts)? But iOS is somehow totally different?
- skydhash 5y agoWindows survived because of the family tech support. I can't even count the number of time I had to restore the computers in the house. Users can and will wreck their devices. Think GB WhatsApp on Android.
