I usually give two weeks. There was one job where I just quit and walked out - management was garbage (like not even present during business hours on the average day when I quit). It doesn't look good to your next employer though. I always thought it odd that a company will never give notice if you are going to be released but at the same time you are expected to give notice. I once hired someone that had just walked out on his previous employer, he walked out on us too. At some point it becomes a pattern to look out for.
