A lot of people are happy to give more notice depending on the circumstances. In my past experience doing career coaching it really came down to an expression of the employer relationship characteristics. In general it's a good idea to give some reasonable notice and it can even help you claim some respectability, again depending. If you might work with those coworkers again in the future it might also help them save face when deciding to work with you. Some folks don't like it and would rather this be more info-transactional, like clicking "cancel account" but for now it's generally worth respecting where it applies.
