- mrjangles 5y agoThis is the usual rewriting of history. It is an extremely modern trend to try to blame the caste system on the British. The British weakened but tolerated the caste system because there would have been immediate revolution had they even thought about removing it. The British were also firmly nationalists who believed that foreign cultures had the right to administer themselves in the way they saw fit.
- jsnodlin 5y agoThey literally had divisions in the army that were caste based, something not seen in the prior centuries. What are you talking about? Do you have any sources?
- mrjangles 5y agoI mean, you would have to read a history book written before 1980 when it became popular to start rewriting history. But a quick search comes up with this for example https://thewire.in/caste/caste-history-postcolonial-studies https://thewire.in/caste/caste-history-postcolonial-studies
- jsnodlin 5y agoObviously caste has been a construct that has been around for a very long time but encoding it into government, the army, law and the judiciary was a British tool.
