I feel like it's dismissive and reductive to simply call it a "cultural zeitgeist." Like jrajav said in their comment[1], a large part of it likely has to do with women experiencing more discrimination and prejudice first-hand, and thus they feel more strongly about harmful discrimination and have that added perspective about their first-hand experiences with misogyny.
