While I appreciate what the article is trying to accomplish, I believe it misses some key differences that simplify the comparison: Vector Clocks: Only update on arrival of external Events (new vector: max of other participant clocks, increment my own event clock) Version Vectors: Update if there's a local Replica change OR external notification informs them other Replicas have changed (new vector: max known value of each Replica version)
