> mirroring the SARS cover up China immediately announced the outbreak, on 30 December 2019. The first patients were only discovered on 27 December. The Chinese government briefed the US government on 3 January about the outbreak, and it publicly announced that the outbreak was caused by the novel coronavirus just days later. This idea that the outbreak was covered up its just a massive rewrite of history. The US government had months to act, but didn't until it was too late. If we're going to compare the reactions of different governments, China had one of the fastest, most dramatic reactions. It locked down a region containing 60 million people less than a month after the first patients were discovered, and completely eliminated the virus by April 2020.
