I definitely think that was the case before iOS and macOS introduced system-wide dark mode. With the exception of a small number of people with very specific vision issues, I would say that those filing requests for dark mode were mostly power users who were used to filing requests. I think after Apple made dark mode a feature of iOS and macOS, we started seeing a lot more requests from average users. Marketing works.
