Apple is making non-App-Store payments painful, expensive, and clunky

- webmobdev 5y agoWow, that's a disgustingly hostile move by Apple to force developers to implement a dark pattern in their app and try and gouge as much money as they can from the user and the developer. Apple platform developers really need to start educating Apple users that it is ultimately them that ends up paying that extra 30% Apple tax for absolutely no reason.
- olliej 5y agoI'm not sure where he's get expensive from: 3% is entirely in line with payment processing costs. As for the other stuff, yeah it seems fairly dickish but at the same time they've clearly stated they're working on APIs to make it require less work.
- mackatap 5y agoApple is charging a 27% commission. It's in the article
- olliej 5y agoWhich is in line with Steam, GoG, Xbox, Playstation, Switch, etc Some basic googling shows physical retailers also have a 15-20% margin on software sales. Why is iOS somehow unique?
- mackatap 5y agoWindows and android allow you to install an application from anywhere. On IOS, a developer must pay Apple to get their software on the device. Similar to game consoles yes.
