I think because these statements come across as transparent mea culpas. There's no sincerity, no feeling, no remorse...no apology, if you will. But I do tend to agree with the sentiment that nothing is good enough for some nebulous group of outraged people. They just want to tar and feather until the person is humiliated out of the public eye. You know, cancelled. So I see why the other side just goes through the apology motions and promptly returns to business as usual. It's all quite funny and meaningless.
