The Absurdity of the Backlash Against Joe Rogan
- uejfiweun 5y agoAt this point Rogan is the battlefield in the culture war. Massive arrays of leftist political and financial power have aligned against him. They've begun scrutinizing every comment he has ever made, and they compile what they find into potent propaganda videos. And they won't stop until he's completely booted off the platform. I am very close to a number of these people and they can't really tell you WHY they suddenly hate Rogan so much, but they want him cancelled, and they want YOU cancelled if you disagree. Spotify's CEO has publicly come out in support of Rogan. Highly doubt that Twitter likes that. I'm virtually certain that they are planning a counter campaign, this time not just aimed at Rogan but at the CEO as well. In general, it does seem that authoritarian leftist forces are seizing on the pandemic as an excuse to clamp down on rights and silence any dissent. Batten down the hatches folks, because by my estimation, either we are about to slide into true 1984 territory, or the "freedom convoy" movement is about to go global.
- burmer 5y agoIf musicians want to pull their music off of spotify in protest, they should. If spotify wants to keep Joe Rogan on their platform, they should. I think think spotify owes Joe a platform, whatever the case may be about his using the n-word or other issues. Cancel culture is mainstream now, not just a leftist symptom any more. I personally think Rogan will be fine. He makes podcasts, he can host them anywhere he wants and his audience will follow. He'll probably come out ahead if spotify cancels him.
- uberman 5y agoI don't think Spotify owes him anything and I don't doubt for a moment they would kick him to the curb if they were not in bed with him to the tune of a 100 million bucks. I'm sure if they did he would be fine though as I saw some tweet from some podcasting company offering him 100 million to come to them.
- aksss 5y agoRumble, it’s more like a YouTube alternative. At least that’s the offer I saw in headlines today.
- dzhiurgis 5y agoAbsurdity is how he wasn't cancelled earlier for all the vaccine scepticism, but suddenly everyone furious about n-word.
- aksss 5y agoThe orchestrated release of that n-word video from PAC-related political actors is because there’s been no substantial traction on cancelling him (for insert whatever contrarian view he’s given airtime to). It’s part of the same political campaign. They’re getting incremental victories though - Spotify bends the knee even more, and how many episodes have been pulled now, approaching 10% maybe? Each concession/apology Joe makes will only encourage more of this. One wonders what kind of buyout clause or early termination clause is in that contract - probably the only thing holding them together right now. If I were JRE, I’d definitely be looking at those alternative offers and kicking the tires of the other platforms. Very large upside benefit to whatever alternative platform could snag him, assuming they can scale content distribution and security maturity in rapid order.
