I'm guessing this is why the 13'' MBP continues to exist. It and the Air service the two levels of consumer device, grandma, grandpa, students, adults who just casually browse just need an Air; adults or students who need to do some work or work back and forth with school/work machines can use the 13''.
The 14''/16'' models are strictly pro devices, and no one who isn't doing intensive pro video/pro music/etc should buy one. I'm kinda glad Apple has tiered its offerings like this.
I personally do some amateur songwriting and am learning iOS development and an M1 Mini was all I needed.
- gnicholas 5y agoAfter the new MBPs came out, I was bummed about the price and didn't think about the possibility they'd keep the base around and upgrade it later. I was thinking about just getting an upgraded MBA, hopefully with MagSafe + 2x USB-C. But then an Apple Store employee reminded me about the base MBP and I decided to hold out. Like you, I now think that they will keep that model around because the gap (both in features and in price) between the MBA and upgraded MBPs is simply too large.

Umm.. why do you have to frame it like this? Why are you assuming grandma's computing abilities?
