I would have to agree.
It even starts with "I have answered this many times since announcing my departure. The reactions have ranged from shock to immediate understanding."
Ah, wait, so in the author's head there is some huge crowd of people (other than maybe family?) who feel the most burning question in the universe is why the Author decided to leave?
I have been at my company for 8 years. From a startup through a successful acquisition. I know every executive and senior engineer on a personal basis and am friends with most. If I left, I might get a pizza party and card wishing me well. There would be no scuttlebutt on why I'm leaving.
- mrtranscendence 5y agoI'm not sure that's quite fair. When I left my job of 3.5 years I did field a lot of questions about why I was leaving and where I was going, but I wouldn't have described that as people "feel[ing] the most burning question in the universe is why [I] decided to leave". (Also, when I came back two months later I faced a lot of questions as to what the hell happened to bring me back so fast. But that's a different story!)
