Unfortunately, this is also my take. I would also note that ERB hacking is still front end work. I also note that startups don't really have the kind of fixed & linear work paths that more mature companies have. I'm kinda bummed for the guy, it sounds like he really needs an industry mentor to talk things over with to help manage reality expectations.
