I read this as the posting was for Senior and the offer extended was at a lower level, that’s not uncommon — Amazon particularly is somewhat famous for down-levels happening in interview debriefs. I don’t think Josh started as a Senior and then got demoted, the post explicitly says the $ was less than desired (due to the offer being made at the lower level).
