All this talk about anaconda etc is a little overblown. Just grab the release ZIP here and run the launcher. It drops you in the editor/debugger workspace with full functionality. https://github.com/CadQuery/CQ-editor/releases/tag/0.2 https://github.com/CadQuery/CQ-editor/releases/tag/0.2 It doesn't appear to modify your system in any way.
I understand that other modes of using CadQuery require 'conda, but the basic built-in editor experience is self contained. Or am I misunderstanding something?
- nikitaga 5y agoUnfortunately the latest published version, 0.2, is pretty old, and lacks newer features such as autoreloading imported modules for example, which imo is a must for any sizeable project. That said, for me the miniconda setup was annoying but not too hard. Wouldn't say it's the worst part. Learning the concepts and APIs with no prior 3D experience is a lot harder. Results are worth it though.
- Already__Taken 5y agodropping into the built product like that fundamentally misunderstands why we even want to be using a really language like python. CQ editor is really good. and using it for an hour just makes me want vscode back.
