I used to care about karma points on HN only till I crossed 500 and went above that (for a buffer) so that I could get downvote privileges. Then I found that I rarely downvote or upvote, or even login. But I do browse without logging in a lot more (thanks to those who upvote or flag and make my lazy experience better). I do like the fact that points or karma aren’t highlighted well. What I would actually like after I login is to see some indicator on anyone replying to my comments instead of the total karma score next to my username. That would be of more use to me than a points system where there’s pretty much nothing after sometime.
