- Guest42 5y agoSurprised not to see Walter Bright, I don’t know his score but seems like the in depth answers get a lot of points.
- deleted 5y ago[deleted]
- heavyset_go 5y agoHe's on the list.
- infogulch 5y agoHe's on this list at 54.
- CyberShadow 5y agoHow is dang not there? https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=dang https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=dang It looks like they should be in 85th place?
- sharkweek 5y agoI like chasing (relatively) arbitrary things (current flavor is a random addiction to trying to speed run Tony Hawk Pro Skater remastered levels, go figure, but I digress). Anywho, saw this list early in my now almost-decade old lifetime on HN and wanted to try to join the ranks. Gave up a while ago, but now seeing the list on the front page here is making me itchy to participate more…
- jorgesborges 5y agoI'm surprised that unlike the forums I spent most of my time on when I was young, I don't really remember anyone here at all. This format is great obviously but I do miss avatars and weird personalized signatures that gave people some personality and recognizability.
- stickyricky 5y agoI agree. World has moved on sadly. fwiw I do recognize many usernames its just not as many as an old school forum.
- ulfw 5y agoI feel very inadequate now :(
- floatingatoll 5y agoGood to know the threshold to stay under. Thanks for the heads up.
- mdaniel 5y ago> 99. hn_throwaway_99 Whoa, I have to wonder if they adjust their score all the time to remain in 99th place? Or, more plausibly: coincidences are coincidency
- AnonC 5y agoI used to care about karma points on HN only till I crossed 500 and went above that (for a buffer) so that I could get downvote privileges. Then I found that I rarely downvote or upvote, or even login. But I do browse without logging in a lot more (thanks to those who upvote or flag and make my lazy experience better). I do like the fact that points or karma aren’t highlighted well. What I would actually like after I login is to see some indicator on anyone replying to my comments instead of the total karma score next to my username. That would be of more use to me than a points system where there’s pretty much nothing after sometime.
- AviationAtom 5y agoI'm genuinely curious how some folks get even close to this. I feel like my first post or two I did something that got all my future posts suppressed, or some such crazy thing, as my comments always end up with super low engagement, despite an effort to make the bulk of them thoughtful and useful.
- RealityVoid 5y agoUmm... Yeah... I think you might be shadow banned.
- WalterGR 5y agoI'm genuinely curious how some folks get even close to this. One way to get on the list is to make a lot of politics-related posts. Another technique to get a lot of karma (don't know about top-10 level karma) is to continually re-post submissions made years ago.
- boomboomsubban 5y agoIt largely rewards time spent on the site. The top karma user has more comments in the past four days than you do in the past year.
- yorwba 5y agoYour first comment got flagged: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15798502 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15798502 I hope you see why. If you email the mods, they'll probably unban you.
- AviationAtom 5y agoI was indeed. They did unban after an email. I had seen mention of it before, and contemplated emailing them to ask, but hadn't done it to this point. Thank you for your comment. I could indeed see why they originally did. Apparently they try to monitor for cases such as mine, but mine had slipped by.
- coldtea 5y ago>25. coldtea 73212 This ranking is a constant proof that I should "get a life" :)
