It could be that something else is contending for L1/L2 cache.
As others have mentioned, take JMH for a spin. Benchmark after a few hundred thousand iterations warmup.
Also as mentioned here, thermal throttling could have a big impact. Maybe you have access to a desktop Xeon or similar?
