Controversial rent-free boat living in the Bay Area
- terran57 5y agoI was looking into boat living when I had graduated college and was thinking about taking a job in LA. Unfortunately, a non-existent credit file at the time meant that I was out of luck getting anyone to finance me.
- dzhiurgis 5y agoFinancing a boat is kinda crazy, unless you are already somewhat rich and buying weekend boat. These boats are $2000 derelicts.
- BXLE_1-1-BitIs1 5y agoOnce you have a fancy house with a view over the water, you don't want poor folk in shabby boats messing up the view.
- genericone 5y agoOr, as the article indicates, crashing/breaking a vessel on your property 16 times, presumably leaving you in charge of cleanup/restoration, whether the statement is of a true event or not.
- oliv__ 5y agoI realize you're saying this in a sarcastic, mocking tone but...yeah? If you worked hard to build your own life up to the point where you can buy a million+ waterfront house, wouldn't it seem unfair to have shabby boats sitting there for free and crashing into your property?
- frontman1988 5y agoWaterfront house doesn't mean you get to own the ocean as well

- olliej 5y agoThose boats were always there, and waterfront property doesn’t mean you own the waterway. Throwing in “environmental concerns” is no different from woodside spontaneously becoming “concerned” about the well being of mountain lions when they were going to lose their ability to block new construction.
- oliv__ 5y agoI agree that the pretense of "environmental concerns" is complete bull.
- yucky 5y agoWell, no. As a property owner you don't get to own the bay or the ocean as well.
- pydry 5y agoIf an asset (i.e. land) is 4 billion years old, then the whole idea of "fair ownership" of it is a dubious legal fiction rooted in violence.
