Quorn: A story about Single Cell Protein
- philipkglass 5y agoThis is an amazing blog. How did you find it, williamsmj? I am fascinated by old and upcoming (e.g. Solein) efforts to make single cell protein. I personally believe that processes converting clean electricity to protein, perhaps mediated through fish farms or other sources of edible animal protein, are going to make big contributions to keeping people fed this century. It's possible that AGW will lead to severe enough disruptions in rainfall/temperature patterns that large areas of currently productive farmland will fall out of cultivation. Bioreactors can produce protein with a much smaller water consumption and much higher productivity per hectare, along with much greater resilience to variable weather and changing climate.
