$10M is in my opinion the optimal amount.
It’s enough to guarantee an upper middle class life style without having to work, but it’s not enough to make it wise to start wasting it on hedonistic crap (boats, multiple mansions, …), so it will keep you grounded.
That’s the goal I’m striving for, hopefully I’ll be there in a few years.
- asdfsd234234444 5y agoIf you own your home, you don't need anywhere near 10M to live an "upper middle class" lifestyle.
- deanmoriarty 5y agoI generally do not disagree, but that’s kind of like saying: if you already have $X, then you just need $Y - $X. My answer is based on someone going from $0 to $Y, i.e. the most conservative interpretation.
- Koshkin 5y agoThis is relative, so maybe the right answer is like 100 times the (average) amount you can live on for a year.
- muzani 5y agoIn some countries or even some parts of countries, $3m should net you a mansion and a decent amount of hedonism.
