why do European trailers have 3 axles instead of 2?
- throwawayboise 5y agoI have wondered the same thing. My guess is that they use three axles with 6 tires, whereas the common North American trailer has two axles with 8 tires. The axles are mounted on a sled so they can be moved forward or backwards depending on the trailer weight to achieve the required weight distribution. Euro trailers appear to be shorter and probably carry lighter loads, so they need fewer tires and maybe do not need to be adjustable. But not really sure.
