Eh. I work for a company that also gets reviews like this a lot (reviews for products we offer instead of the app itself). You’d be surprised how many people accidentally do it, and how hard it is to prevent. I really think it’s a bit rich to suggest it’s intentional.
- basisword 5y agoReminds me of when I would frequently get 1 star reviews with the subject “Amazing app! Highly recommended”. So, so frustrating especially when the reviews can have such a big impact.
- bin_bash 5y agoWell it doesn't look like they're in a big hurry to "fix" this UX issue so I think it's worth pointing out
- hwers 5y agoIf that were the case why was it ever at 1.8 stars to begin with then? The drastic change (with no software updates) certainly doesn't make intentional manipulation far fetched.
- hbn 5y agoIf it's hard to stop, why did it used to have a low rating before 3 months ago?
- hbn 5y agoActually I figured it out, it's in the article linked within the article. 3 months ago they started interrupting podcasts with a prompt to review (the app). https://www.theverge.com/2021/11/19/22791968/apple-podcasts-star-score-review-prompt https://www.theverge.com/2021/11/19/22791968/apple-podcasts-...
- marcellus23 5y agoThere's nothing in the article to suggest they're interrupting podcasts: > We weren’t able to track down a copy of the prompt ourselves to confirm when and where it appears or what it looks like It sounds more like they just didn't have any in-app prompts before 3 months ago, and then they added them.
