Major newspapers performed the recount after the Supreme Court stopped it and found Bush won the recount. In fact they tried a few scenarios the Gore team wanted, and in each scenario Bush won. While the butterfly ballot may have pushed votes to Bush, studies have shown he lost votes when Florida was called premature.
