LOLs. I just read an Reddit item that "morale terrible at one FAANG and everyone's leaving". It wasn't Meta or Google, so that sorta narrows it down. Coincidentally, I met someone leaving AWS.
You can have the best business model and product in the world, but if you abuse your employees, they will leave (or unionize) and it will all come tumbling down.
- mmmmkay 5y agocan confirm, am an Amazon engineer, morale is terrible, am also leaving this month.
- paxys 5y agoThat has been true for Amazon for a long time. They rely on having a revolving door of engineers. Managers have firing targets they must meet. New hire stocks vest on a 5/15/40/40 schedule over 4 years (over the standard 25/25/25/25), so it's directly beneficial to the company to replace engineers before they hit year 3.
- axg11 5y agoLooking at the share price for Amazon and other big tech companies over the last year, that vesting schedule has been a positive for new starters.
- mmmmkay 5y agohuh? amazon is down 10% on the year. All that's done is demoralize the new hires further.
- stainforth 5y agoI was just curious - do managers and I guess non-developer roles face this same kind of competition? Or if you're a developer should you just shoot for some other role so you can be safe and load work onto the developers?
