System76-Scheduler Is a New Pop OS Rust Effort to Improve Desktop Responsiveness
- Spivak 5y agoI genuinely don’t mean this as dismissive but I think this article could benefit from de-fluffing because it’s a good idea that gets lost in the weeds of “tuning”, “scheduler” and “rust.” This program is almost literally `nice` (with a tiny tiny subset of `tuned`) but exposed as a dbus service. I think desktop Linux could benefit from this being a standard API and compositors exposing enough information about the active window to make use of it but for anyone to know that it has to be known that this is actually what it is — a less drastic rtkit. This is the meat: https://github.com/pop-os/system76-scheduler/blob/master/src/nice.rs https://github.com/pop-os/system76-scheduler/blob/master/src...
- IronWolve 5y agoBeen using pfmod and xanmod kernels with scheduler and other response improvements for decades. You can really make your linux desktop much smoother. https://gitlab.com/post-factum/pf-kernel/-/wikis/README https://gitlab.com/post-factum/pf-kernel/-/wikis/README https://xanmod.org/ https://xanmod.org/
