White House urges Spotify to take further action on Joe Rogan
- BitwiseFool 5y agoI feel like this is not something the White House should be doing. No matter how noble this might seem in the present, I still think it is inappropriate and I hope this doesn't become a precedent.
- _-david-_ 5y agoAt what point does government pressure to do something like this violate the First Amendment?
- salawat 5y agoIt already has. This is getting into Executive quid-pro-quo territory with tech legislation as a hot current issue in the legislature.
- tanseydavid 5y ago...and let's consider it from the standpoint of Spotify's First Amendment rights. If the Citizens United v Federal Election Commission court case taught us anything, it is that "Corporations-are-People"; therefore Corporations have First Amendment free speech rights. https://www.fec.gov/legal-resources/court-cases/citizens-united-v-fec/ https://www.fec.gov/legal-resources/court-cases/citizens-uni...
- uejfiweun 5y agoVery funny and sad to me how modern politics has turned the term "liberal" into a political group that seems to support the exact opposite of liberalism - censor any opinion we don't like, discriminate based on race, destroy anything "problematic", anything we disagree with is misinformation, yada yada.

- xqcgrek2 5y agoState capture.
- tj-teej 5y agoOpinions on this aside (which are subjective), we should remember that the "this is a bad precedent to set" argument is ignoring the (objective) fact that this precedent has already been set. The US Government took many actions even stronger than this to stop speech against the Vietnam War (resulting in the Free Speech movement). This problem continues in how folks talk about how vaccine mandates setting a bad precedent, unaware of how the US Government mandates (by force) polio vaccinations.
- bigodbiel 5y agoI’m here really hoping this is just Ms. Psaki’s personal opinion and not that of Administration, that somehow transpired during a briefing.
- tomohawk 5y agoWhite House: "Nice gig you got there. It would be a shame if you didn't stay on our message instead of putting out your own message. Someone might have to come along and shut you down. That would be such a shame."
- onnnon 5y agoClickbait article. Psaki does not specifically target Spotify to take further action against Joe Rogan in the press conference. She's speaks of tech companies and news organizations generally as a whole to call out misinformation. It's a pretty generic statement that has been sensationalized to bolster a weak news article. https://youtu.be/HZg43LxJD0Q?t=4324 https://youtu.be/HZg43LxJD0Q?t=4324
