CGI worked pretty well in the original Matrix and Terminator 2. When CGI is innovative and fits the plot it's fine. When it's used in the same formulaic superhero movie 30-minute final battle scene we've seen a dozen times--with the same big boss and hundreds of disposable minions--it gets old.
