Christopher Nolan (the director of Interstellar) has notably not jumped on the modern film making bandwagon. Nolan still shoots on film and eschews CGI whenever possible. The authors of this article might see Nolan as a lone wolf standing against the forces of CGI that have ruined film over the last few decades.
- greedo 5y agoUh no. Nolan used a ton of CGI in all the Batman movies he made, in Interstellar, in Dunkirk, Tenet and especially in Inception. Yes he likes to use practical when possible, but the idea that he doesn't use CGI is ridiculous. Everyone uses CGI. Even when it's simple compositing stuff. Everyone conflates CGI with doing a shot/scene entirely digital. Some films do that, but most don't.
- blendergeek 5y agoI did not say that "no CGI was used". Rather, I stated that Nolan uses practical effects whenever possible. The author of the article was arguing that modern movies (since approximately the Star Wars prequels) have been ruined by too much CGI. I was pointing out that Nolan has not jumped on the trend described in the article and rather only uses CGI when necessary (some would say he doesn't use enough CGI). To learn more about Nolan's film making process, I recommend you watch some interviews with him. > Everyone conflates CGI with doing a shot/scene entirely digital. Some films do that, but most don't. The article does not conflate these things. Rather the author decries "excessive" CGI use in shots that are not entirely digital.
