Just reading up on this stuff a bit: those mutant apes are worth 21 ETH now and will soon be, with the current trajectory, around 50 ETH if the crypto market doesn't get a good crash. How crazy are people?
I know a guy who was a waiter from a not well off family in 2013, read about bitcoin and maxxed out his creditcards, borrowed money from all his friends, relatives and went 'all in'. His bet paid off as we know now: last I spoke with him he had close to 100m$, about half of which in real world money and half in crypto. But I can imagine people making the same bets when reading about these monkeys; will they laugh at the rest of us in a few years too?
- Kaze404 5y agoI can't say I'm envious of a person who risked destroying their own financial life going all in on a ponzi scheme and lucked into being at the top, the same way I'm not envious of Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.
- tluyben2 5y agoMe neither, and that was not what I meant to say, but nevermind. I didn't communicate that very well.
- rjh29 5y agoI equate it to people who spend a lot of money on the lottery and become millionaires. It's not like they know something we don't, they took a financial risk and it paid off. If you could be sure the Apes are going to rise to 50 ETH, why not invest in it? The reason is because there's an equally likely chance the Apes will fall to half or less their current value, right? The same could have happened with Bitcoin.
