A closer look at electric vehicle contactors
- theamk 5y agoDoes anybody actually use "solenoid" to mean "electrically actuated switch"? In all the usages I have seen, "solenoid" is used to mean coil with plunger. Calling an electrically actuated switch "solenoid" is an informal shortcut, much like calling "transistor radio" just a "transistor".
- camtarn 5y agoYeah, I was confused by this too. In my line of work, we use solenoid as a shorthand for hydraulic or pneumatic solenoid valves.
