Joe Wilcox isn't the sharpest when it comes to Apple rumours. My personal favourite is his bit [1] on why the Verizon iPhone wasn't announced by Apple (there's a great response in the comments which Gruber grabbed and put on DF)[2]. Apple's biggest problem with the iPhone 5 is that it isn't out yet, but that's OK because the iPhone 4 continues to sell reasonably well (ref. AT&T data showing it as the #1 selling smartphone in the most recent quarter).

That didn't happen to the iPhone 4 in the third quarter. Its sales increased. (The iPhone 4 was announced two weeks before the third quarter ended and it started selling at the start of the fourth quarter. That might explain some of the difference, not sure whether that's the whole story.) I think Apple is doing alright.
