- russdill 5y agoI live near a road that is divided and normally a 50, unless children are present. It'd be nice if they had flashing lights.
- ben174 5y agoCalifornia signs all say "When children are present". But I do think that's not a terribly difficult determination for a machine to make.
- core-utility 5y agoThe idea of present might be a difficult one. I'm not up to speed on any court cases that have determined what present means, but it's likely more nuanced than a simple "can Tesla identify a child in sight". A human would be more likely to play it safe and just obey regardless.
- sgustard 5y agoMy understanding is "present" means "school is in session", regardless of whether any children are visible.

Can be times of day, "when flashing", or "when children are present". Time of day isn't great because of irregular after school activities, events, delayed starts because of snow, etc.

- tshaddox 5y agoI don't know the actual law, but California has school zone speed limit signs that say "when children are present."
- vkou 5y agoThis doesn't have to be state law, it can be municipal law. All it takes is city council putting up a sign that says "15 MPH when children are present".
